Karyn wrote and published her #1 Amazon bestseller, Tragedy’s Treasures, A Mom’s Journey Through Grief,  in October 2016. The book shares her heartfelt story of twelve faith-based treasures she experienced before, during, and after the death of her sixteen-year-old son in an early morning car accident.

She retired from teaching second grade in May 2017. Thinking she would spend more time writing and having fun with her family was interrupted when breast cancer entered the picture. The diagnosis came in December 2017 when her doctor noticed a lump in a routine exam. Mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and an MRI followed. Then came a bi-lateral mastectomy in February 2018.

Thriving, not just surviving, is her motto. She writes about grief and loss, and will soon write about her Wellness Journey through breast cancer.

Karyn’s Family

Her daughter, son-in-law, and their four children (two boys and two girls) live in Texas. She treasures each one of them and looks forward to the time she spends with them when she travels to Texas.

Karyn and her husband, Albert, thought they would move to Colorado to retire, but life held different plans. So, for three years, she taught second graders in Olathe, Colorado.

When she is not writing, editing,  or blogging, she enjoys snow skiing in the winter, hiking in the summer, and playing with her cat, Minnie.
