Positive Thinking…Can It Be Learned?

What we think often determines what we believe. Are you a positive thinker or a negative thinker? Do you see the glass as half-full or half-empty? Are we born with a positive or negative outlook? Can positive thinking be learned?

Positive Thinking

You Hold the Power

Here’s the good news! Positive thinking is a mental and emotional attitude. We can choose to be more positive by rewiring our brains (mindset) and thought processes to positively transform our lives. If you’re a half empty glass type of person, you can change your mindset and learn positive thinking skills. Research suggests our brain has the capability to form neural pathways just by thinking differently!

Then, we can better control how we react to events in our lives–even the negative ones. Since we can’t always control the negativity around us, we can learn to control our emotions and how we react. The more positive we are, the happier we will be.

Happiness vs. Optimism

Speaking of happiness, what is the difference in happiness and optimism (positive thinking)?

Happiness is an emotion or a feeling, Optimism is a hopefulness and confidence about the future. When we use positive thinking, we expect  the successful outcome of something.

Becoming more optimistic is a learned behavior! Yay! You hold the power to think more positively and to change your life for the better! It all starts with our thoughts.

Here’s how it works…

  1. If you change the way you THINK, you will change what you BELIEVE is possible.
  2. If you change what you Believe is possible, you will change your FEELINGS.
  3. If your FEELINGS change, so do your ACTIONS!
  4. If you change your ACTIONS, you change your OUTCOME!

The Rewards of A Positive Mindset

What if you took one whole day to concentrate on everything positive?

An American entrepreneur started  a Positive Thinking Day on September 13, 2003, to remind us to focus on the positive and tap into the many rewards of thinking positively.

What are the rewards? A positive mindset decreases depression and boosts self-esteem. It is the doorway to:

  • more energy
  • happier connections with others
  • more success in fulfilling your desires.

It changes everything for the better.

In conclusion, we now know what we think governs our beliefs. Our beliefs shape our actions which influence our happiness, health, and success!

Yes, positivity can be learned.
