Sun Rays through trees

It is so easy for me to get too “busy” to read my daily devotional. But the last two weeks I have been reminded how many treasures are hidden there waiting for me to discover them.

My heart is burdened because a close friend is suffering from bone cancer and is doing her best to make each day positive.  I wrote about her in another blog titled, “Holding My Hand“.   I had missed a couple of days reading from OUR DAILY BREAD, (RBC Ministries),  so I read the scriptures and messages for those days.  I read these verses, prayed for Lisa, and thanked God that I had taken the time to meditate.

Psalm 73:23,24
23 Yet I am always with you;
    you hold me by my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
    and afterward you will take me into glory.

On December 1, I opened OUR DAILY BREAD
to find my favorite Bible verse used as the theme of this devotional to start off the month:

John 14:1-3
 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. “

This is the verse that came to my mind the day my son Bart was killed in an early morning car accident.  I clung to this verse for dear life, and was confident that he was in heaven.

I don’t think it is an accident that this verse started the month of December….the month we celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Savior.

John 8:12
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus is the light of the world! He lights our lives and gives us the treasures found in God’s Words in the Bible.  These words comfort, sustain, and guide us. In addition, they comfort, sustain, and guide others as we share them.
